Success CDC

Round Rock ISD has two full-time, licensed child development centers (CDCs) for teen parents to use while they are in school. The day care centers are housed at Great Oaks Elementary and Success High School. Students pay no fees for child care services, but are expected to attend and pass their classes in order to be eligible for child care. Students attending Stony Point, Cedar Ridge, or Success High School use the Success HS daycare, and students attending Round Rock, McNeil, or Westwood High School use the Great Oaks daycare

Additionally, Round Rock ISD employees may utilize the child care centers at affordable tuition rates.

For teen parents who need transportation, Round Rock ISD provides bus service to the Child Development Center. The bus picks the students and babies up at the students’ homes and takes them to the center. The student is able to take the baby in, get the baby settled, then get back on the bus to head to school (if not attending Success High School). After school, the bus picks up at each campus, takes the students to the center to pick up their babies, and then takes them home. Bus service is only available for students attending school the full day (9 am – 4 pm).

Please call the Child Care Director at least 2 weeks prior to the date you need to start care. She will schedule a time for you to visit the center and register your baby. She will also discuss with you items you will need to bring for your baby. If you need to ride the day care bus, she will coordinate with the bus driver to have your stop added to the route.

We look forward to working with you and your baby!

How will my baby and I get to school? If you and your baby need transportation to school, notify the CDC director or Teen Parent Program Coordinator. Arrangements can be made for the “baby bus”, which only transports parents and their children, to pick you and your baby up from your home and drive you to Success HS. If you attend Stony Point HS or Cedar Ridge HS, the bus will take you to your school after you get your baby settled at the Success CDC. At the end of the day, the bus will pick up Stony Point and Cedar Ridge parents, pick up Success HS students and children, and then drop everyone off at their homes.

Will I get to visit my baby during the day? Yes, but only at lunch time unless you are breastfeeding. Please do not come during passing periods or ask to leave class early. Your children need time to adjust to their routine and make new friends with as few disruptions as possible. Remember that when you are in the Center, your baby is your responsibility. If you are breastfeeding, talk to the daycare director about leaving class to pump or feed your baby.

Can I breastfeed on campus? There is a designated breastfeeding room (The Quiet Room) in the Child Development Center that you may use during lunch and advisory. We have found it works well for the daycare teachers to keep track of when the babies begin to get fussy and communicate with you rather than you leaving class only to find that your baby is sleeping.

What do I need to do before my baby can attend the Center? Please speak with the Center’s director (Ms. Raiford) before bringing your baby to the center. You will also need to fill out paperwork and request transportation if you need to ride the bus to school. We highly encourage parents to visit the Child Development Center before the baby first attends, but it is not required.

Do I need to bring my baby’s birth certificate? No, your baby can attend the Center without a birth certificate. However, you do need to bring a copy of the hospital verification of birth.

Does my baby need to be up-to-date on shots? Yes, your baby needs to be up-to-date on shots for his/her age before attending the daycare. For example, if the child is 2 months old, he/she needs to have gotten the 2 month shots.

When can my baby start attending the Child Development Center? Babies can begin attending at 6 weeks old.

What will my child do during the day at the CDC? Teachers engage children in a variety of fun and educational activities specific to the children’s age and developmental level. The goals for infants and toddlers include: to learn about self and others, to learn about moving, to learn about the world, and to learn about communication. Some of the activities that children take part in are playing with toys, making crafts, and going outside.

Will my child go outside every day? There is a covered activity area outside that the children visit almost every day with the teachers. For this reason, it is especially important to dress your child appropriately for the weather each day.

What do I do if I or my baby is sick? Please call in to report any absences to the office at 512-704-1350 (AND to transportation at 512-428-2450 if you ride the bus). It is important that you communicate what is going on that is keeping your child home so that we can make sure the room is healthy for the other children. If your child is not ill, just let us know that they won’t be coming in that day.

How do I enter the Child Development Center? The Center has its own designated entrance on the back side of the building. For safety reasons, babies are not allowed in the main building unless accompanied by the teachers. If you come late, please drop your baby off at the Center before checking in with the front office. If you are leaving early, please sign out with the front office before picking up your baby from the Center.

Can my friends come to the Child Development Center with me? Please do not bring anyone into the Center with you. Only parents are allowed in the Center since having too many strangers in the area causes stress for babies. Please have friends wait in the main building or outside.

What are the rules about phones? When you are at the daycare, we want you to spend time with your child and cell phones are not allowed. If you need to use your phone, please step into the school’s main building.

Where do I wait for the bus after school? Bus students and car riders must stay inside the daycare until the bus or your ride arrives. The busy outside bus area is not a safe place for babies at dismissal time.
